If you ask child life specialist Adina Levitan, who works with families and children with chronic illnesses, Thimble patches are merely one tool in a larger arsenal of coping skills.
“One of the most important things we can do is give children a sense of control,” said Levitan, who added that her own kids have used the patches to manage blood draws and vaccines. “By providing children with management options early on, we’re not just helping them get through a procedure; we’re giving them the confidence to take care of their health as they grow older.”
